Info

In late August 2026, flash floods and landslides left families in Nepal without basic supplies. SNS set up a collection point in Kathmandu, published exactly what was needed, and asked people to verify information before sharing it.

Flood relief,August 2026:what wecollected andwhere

Kathmandu street during rain

What we asked for

On 26 August we published a list of essentials, in English and Nepali, and asked people to bring what they could.

  • Utilities: blankets, mattresses, tents, tarpaulins, and clothes in all sizes.
  • Supplies and technology: solar lights, bulbs, generators, power banks and raincoats.
  • Food: biscuits, dry food, noodles and drinking water.
  • Medical: sanitary pads, first aid boxes, paracetamol and bandages.

Where we collected

The first drop-off point was Maitighar Mandala. On 27 August we moved it to Venkatesh Mandir Devasthan in Battisputali, so supplies could be collected, kept secure and sent on faster. Our team was stationed at the temple to receive goods and pass them on for delivery to affected families.

We also asked people who wanted to help to follow official government channels, and we shared the Nuwakot District Administration Office's appeal when relief supplies were piling up undelivered under the one-door policy.

Verify before you share

A crisis also floods phones with rumours. On 27 August we asked everyone to check the source, think before forwarding, share only what is accurate and useful, and follow official updates. A rumour can create panic. The right information can help someone make the right decision at the right time.

That habit is now part of our planned Tech Literacy sessions.

What is not published yet

A count of what was collected and where it went is not published yet. When it is, it will be added here and on the events page.

Thank you to everyone who brought supplies, shared the drop-off point and helped spread the message. Questions: info@swadeshnaiswarga.com.
