Info

A language survives when it lives online, in keyboards, subtitles, search results and songs. Our language programme builds open-source tools and content so Nepal's languages stay usable for the next generation.

Workstreams

  • Open tools Keyboards, spell-checkers and transliteration helpers for Nepali and under-resourced languages, under free licences and in public repositories.
  • Content commons Subtitled video, children's readers and translated explainers, released under open licences.
  • Community sprints Translate-a-thons where volunteers localise everyday software and media.

Why it matters

When young people can text, search and create in their own language, staying at home gets easier. Language carries identity and livelihood at the same time.
